→The Faculty of Risk and Crisis Management (The first to be established in Asia)
In the past, Japan took for granted that safety, water, and air were free and abundant to its people. However, running parallel to the advancement of science technology and globalization lies the increased threat to the country’s sovereignty and security caused by increased numbers in crises, accidents, disasters, crime, and pollution. It has come to the point where each individual must be able to foresee, prevent, and respond to disasters spontaneously if or when they occur. The urgent need to educate and research crisis management is currently being sought both on a national and community level, and our university has undoubtedly been established to challenge this goal. |
→The Faculty of Crisis Management Research System
Leaders in crisis management require specialized skills and a well-rounded character. Our curriculum is composed of: prerequisite/elective courses that are equivalent to all students in the university, basic mandatory courses for each faculty, and courses specialized for each respective department. Students acquire a broad perspective through basic courses during their first year, and continue to be educated on the fundamentals of crisis management during their second year. Small group seminars are also held to heighten the students’ awareness in their purpose of study. Students branch off to their specialized areas after the second year; some studying further to acquire licensing/certification before graduation. For example, those wishing to have licensing as Paramedics are required to take courses in fire, accidents, poisons, and drugs; incidents that may trigger larger disasters. Understanding the details allow students to be trained effectively to serve their purpose.
